Upcoming VHS blog revival

Just a quick note to say that I kinda feel like updating my VHS cover blog, after having stopped updating it years ago. ;) I was partially inspired by this excellent short video on YouTube after Lazy Game Reviews posted a link to it in a Twitter post...

After seeing that, I decided to dig out as many different blank VHS tape boxes from my collection as I could. That'll be the first post in the blog's return. Oops, spoiler alert! Ignore that!

Update 2: I've also decided to update my Dumberer blog. Currently in the process of replacing all the pictures that are on stupid Photobucket. *sigh* I can see them because I'm using a Chrome plug-in, but I can't rely on that option for everyone. Not sure I got them all because the watermark stopped appearing after a while. Hmm... Guess I'll have to browse on something else and make sure.

Record Clubs

Can't remember what record sleeve this was in, but in it it was! A Reader's Digest Record Club brochure. Were you in any music clubs?

Yes, it really is that yellow.

Descriptions of all the nondescriptness.

I don't have personal memories of actual record clubs, as I was very young when they were already phasing them out in favor of cassettes, but my mother did get some of my early Weird Al and Bill Cosby cassettes through Columbia House in the mid-80s. I still have stamps from VHS clubs, though, and even used them on recordings I'd make off TV.

I would go on to use similar cards myself when joining CD clubs. I was with Columbia House more than once, BMG at least once, and some other club I can't remember. (CDHQ?) Kept my membership going until 2000 or so, I guess. As long as you stayed on top of things and made sure they weren't making mistakes, it was definitely worth it.

Star Wars Read-Alongs

After posting the Batman Book & Record, I thought I'd post my Star Wars Read-Along books.

Yep, I never had too many of them...and all but two are cassette books, but oh well.

The movie ones just features stills and promotional shots, but there are some neat pictures to show here and there...

I used this shot as a basis for a drawing exercise when I was around...12? 13? Dunno. 

I think this was my first drawing using regular pencil for everything but the darkest parts, which were done with black marker. I know I could've done much better had I had more than just HB pencils, but oh well. Got kinda messy on the stromtrooper mouths with the marker too. ;)

I always thought this was a great shot, showing the amazing detail they put into that borra prop. Looks like a real beast!

Some nice detailed watercolor in The Ewoks Join the Fight.

I've always liked these hoverbike dealies in Planet of the Hoojibs, and they were definitely an inspiration in my hovervehicle drawing phase.

Oh, I also posted Rebel Mission to Ord Mantell a while back. Though it didn't include a book, it was a fun expanded universe story based on a throwaway line that Han says in The Empire Strikes Back.

All in the Families

After my big yard sale, I stopped buying records at the same indiscriminate pace. I've only bought around 5 or 6 since then, and this was the first one, because I HAD TO!

Yep, one of my all-time favorite TV shows. I knew these were out there, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time I'd actually seen one.

It's comprised of the theme song and audio clips from the show of some of their more memorable conversations and arguments.

Interesting story. There were a LOT of people who could relate to Archie Bunker in some way. Thankfully, I saw none of it in my family, and very little of it in my extended family. (my grandparents tended to say 'Chinese man' or 'black man,' etc...instead of just saying 'man,' which would've sufficed, but that's about it, really)

Not too long ago, I found another album I just HAD TO grab, especially considering the first one...

Yep, the series that All in the Family was based on! I haven't seen a lot of it, but the format is the same, of course, and even this cover shows you the same type of characters.

Kinda neat that they presented it like a page from a script.

Mike was the annoying one in both versions. Haha.

That first track pretty much sums up both series to a T.

Used to love these book/record deals growing up, especially the Star Wars ones. I think I still have all mine. Maybe I should post them sometime. This is the only Batman one I have.

Can't remember, but I'm guessing it's a Gorilla Grodd story. And possibly a Scarecrow (Joanthan Crane) story. ;)

I like this section in the 'also available' part of the book. If they had made that episode for real, I wonder who could've played the Conan-looking guy. Maybe Steve Reeves or Reg Park?

Conniff's little girl

See, I said little girl because this lady reminds me of Sally Struthers, who played Gloria "Little Girl" Bunker/Stivic.

I didn't tell Ray, so he's trying to figure out what I mean.
