Ye ol' voh-de-oh-doh, yo!

Cute cover. :)

The centennial project was part of Canada's 100th anniversary celebration. Many participated in different ways. I bet there were lots of albums like this.

Sadly uninformative...

From left to right: Lorne White (this guy's brother, apparently), Karen Oxley (obviously), Vern Moulton (obviously).

Well, other than seeing a few blank entries on discography sites and a couple of eBay listings, I found out nothing about these people. :/ Well, at least I can provide some info on Canada's centennial anniversary. 1967 in Canada was notable for Expo '67 in Montréal and Pamela Anderson being born on July 1. (Canada Day) Heh.

  1. Hello Ripplin.

Thought you might like a little more info on this trio. This is actually "The Dropouts" of Singalong Jubilee fame. They would sing fun songs and many of them had the "Vodeo-doo" sound. When they made this record, some "smart" soul decided to rename the group. But no one knew who that was!

They were very good though. I should know! I listened to them rehearsing for hours beneath my bedroom and learned all their parts before they were done :) Actually, Lorne White was my Dad. There is a rather extensive write up on him at www.imdb.com. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1259250/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm if you want to know more.

He comes from an illustrious family and is the brother of Portia White a famed Canadian Contralto, and the son of The Rev'd Dr Capt William Andrew White who was the first black officer in the British Empire.

Thanks for posting this album cover :) What did you mean by "Lorne White (this guy's brother, apparently),"? Whose brother?

Vern Moulton is the only member of the group still living. Dad died in 2008, and Karen died of MS in 1992 which was a real tragedy. She was a very gifted musician and a sweet lady. There is a good amount of information on her in the Canadian Archives: http://www.archivescanada.ca/english/search/ItemDisplay.asp?sessionKey=999999999_142&l=0&lvl=1&v=0&coll=0&itm=199262&rt=1&bill=1.

There is a book written about the show, and you can read it on line here http://books.google.ca/books?id=3zbibowECfwC&pg=PA91&lpg=PA91&dq=vern+moulton+singalong+jubilee&source=bl&ots=vXCXDaanK7&sig=SB9XEO-Z5KF9ujgz0-hpYSvADKo&hl=en&sa=X&ei=cwGoUrirN8a1qwGCz4DwCA&ved=0CC0Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=vern%20moulton%20singalong%20jubilee&f=false. You will find Vern Moulton & Karen Oxley on pg 91 and Lorne White on pg 93.

I hope this tells you a little more about these people :)

    1. Wow, thanks for a nice detailed reply, Holly. :)

The "Lorne White (this guy's brother, apparently)" part has a link in it, which goes to a page about William White III. Would he not be your uncle? If not, well, I can't remember how I found that now. I'll remove it if he's not the right guy.
