Thank you, Mr. Kives!

Found out today that the founder of K-tel, Philip Kives, died on Wednesday at the age of 87. The Winnipeg Free Press wrote a nice article about him.

And now, why not post a new [old] K-tel album to the blog? :)

Introducing...

Reminds me of something, but maybe it's not obvious enough. ;)

But wait, there's more!

Great selection! I should go give it a spin.

You also get...

...a nice gatefold, since it's a 2 record set.

Order now!

Crinkly lady

Interesting gift basket.

Few with his ability? When every label had 40 organists at the time? Heh. Haven't actually listened yet, but I'm sure he knows the score.

Before Tony Robbins, there was...

Dr. Murray Banks, and this album of his is one of my favorite finds in a while...though, is he insulting me?

Well, he certainly has the prerequisite megawatt smile of a motivational speaker.

ME!

I wouldn't be surprised if I ran into some of these sometime. (seems I have seen #2 before)

People of a certain age...

...may remember seeing this fella's ads on TV seemingly constantly in the 80s and 90s.

Yep, it's Zamfir, Master of the Pan Flute! I don't know how widely his commercials were aired, but I seemed to have all the channels that played them...and played them...and played them...

Here's one of the ads I saw ad nauseum:

Honestly, it is very nice. :) And watching the ads again is always fun.

Here's the back cover:

I should give "Yesterday" a spin, at least. I could see that working very well on pan flute.

More on Gheorghe Zamfir here.

JFK Tribute, Part 3

Yep, this is the third JFK tribute album I'm posting! (first and second)

No idea how many different tribute albums there were to him, but there had to have been dozens, anyway, and that's just in the States. Many countries would've made their own, I'm sure.

A nicely put together summary of some important events in his political life.

Let's Morse up the place!

Good looking cover! A bit industrial-looking. I really like this type of album. In a way, the information is timeless and can still be used. In another way, it's nigh obsolete. *shrug*

Forget your dots and dashes, it's all about the dits and dahs!

Hey, it has a booklet, too! I can brush up on it on the go! ;)

You're Simply the Most

Coming across this was a nice surprise!

Didn't even know he had an album before I saw this. Of course, I know that's true of countless other TV stars of the period. I've also posted albums featuring his co-stars Fonzie and Chachi. ;)

Interesting super-minimalist cover. I guess the color draws you in. Hmm...

I can't think of what to do with the back cover. Hey Donny, can you move to your left a couple of feet and lean to your right a bit? Perfect.

I see what they did there.

K-tel's Daffy Dances

Bit of time travel or something going on here, which was unusual for a K-tel album. ;)

My mother mentioned The Freddie a couple of days ago! :) Can't remember why. This is a pretty impressive tracklist, and an interesting idea. Reminds me of trying to think of unique lists for Letterboxd, innit, RetroHound?

Mann, this is gross...

Please be assured that if this wasn't legendarily bad, I wouldn't have bought it. ;)

'Twas not fun editing these pics.

That...scene...on the right is on a piece of sculpted/shaved/howevertheydothat velvet. *shiver*

Do I detect a hint of regret on his face? "What's Going On" indeed! Also, I'm kinda wondering if this was partly an inspiration for Ron Burgundy.

If I must say one positive thing about this, it's that this is not a typical glossy sleeve, but more like rough cardstock. Reminds me of the sleeve for a Kid Koala album I have.
