Found out today that the founder of K-tel, Philip Kives, died on Wednesday at the age of 87. The Winnipeg Free Press wrote a nice article about him.

And now, why not post a new [old] K-tel album to the blog? :)

People of a certain age...

...may remember seeing this fella's ads on TV seemingly constantly in the 80s and 90s.

Yep, it's Zamfir, Master of the Pan Flute! I don't know how widely his commercials were aired, but I seemed to have all the channels that played them...and played them...and played them...

Honestly, it is very nice. :) And watching the ads again is always fun.

Yep, this is the third JFK tribute album I'm posting! (first and second)

No idea how many different tribute albums there were to him, but there had to have been dozens, anyway, and that's just in the States. Many countries would've made their own, I'm sure. 

A nicely put together summary of some important events in his political life.

Good looking cover! A bit industrial-looking. I really like this type of album. In a way, the information is timeless and can still be used. In another way, it's nigh obsolete. *shrug*

Coming across this was a nice surprise!

Didn't even know he had an album before I saw this. Of course, I know that's true of countless other TV stars of the period. I've also posted albums featuring his co-stars Fonzie and Chachi. ;)

Interesting super-minimalist cover. I guess the color draws you in. Hmm...

I can't think of what to do with the back cover. Hey Donny, can you move to your left a couple of feet and lean to your right a bit? Perfect.

K-tel's Daffy Dances

Bit of time travel or something going on here, which was unusual for a K-tel album. ;)

My mother mentioned The Freddie a couple of days ago! :) Can't remember why. This is a pretty impressive tracklist, and an interesting idea. Reminds me of trying to think of unique lists for Letterboxd, innit, RetroHound?

Do I detect a hint of regret on his face? "What's Going On" indeed! Also, I'm kinda wondering if this was partly an inspiration for Ron Burgundy.

If I must say one positive thing about this, it's that this is not a typical glossy sleeve, but more like rough cardstock. Reminds me of the sleeve for a Kid Koala album I have.
